Earlier this week, one of Fords 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engines earned recognition from WardsAuto when the publication named it to the annual 2017 Ward's 10 Best Engines list. The engine was specially designed to power the RS trim of the 2017 Ford Focus, and with 93-octane fuel is capable of 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

According to the press release, the engine is able to make such a large amount of power relative to its size thanks to "an all-new, low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with a larger compressor wheel that delivers more airflow and power throughout the rev range." The hair-raising hatchback rockets from a standstill to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. The Focus RS boasts four different drive modes and delivers class-leading cornering speed with the innovative Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring system.

The 2.3-liter EcoBoost power plant is also an option for the 2017 Ford Mustang in which it makes 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.
